Thomas-Benjamin Seiler is an aquatic ecotoxicologist and focused his research on the development and improvement of small-scale bioassays, in particular with the zebrafish embryo, before becoming Director of the Hygiene-Institut des Ruhrgebiets (Ruhr District Institute of Hygiene) in Gelsenkirchen, Germany, as of October 2020. He studied biology in Heidelberg and obtained his PhD in 2010. From 2007 to 2020 he was assistant professor and research group leader for effect-related Ecotoxicology at the Institute for Environmental Research of RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Thomas is the current SETAC Europe President, member of the SETAC Europe Council since 2017 and SETAC member since 2005. In 2006 he joined Mirco Bundschuh and Amy Brooks in the built-up of the SETAC Europe Student Advisory Council (SAC) and was furthermore involved in establishing SETAC’s Young Environmental Scientists meeting as well as the Interest Group on Science and Risk Communication – SCIRIC and was its chair until late 2020. He will give a 30-minute guest lecture introducing his research in ecotoxicology and his work at the Hygiene-Institut des Ruhrgebiets.
